Technology: Infinitely Variable Motion Controls (IVMC)

IVMC is the basic unit. By customizing, it can be used for various applications:

IVMC applications: table 1

How IVMC works: Shown below are IVMC Layout and Logic Diagram. The input splits into two functions: driving and controlling:

Driving: Drive gears are rotating slotted gears, slotted gears and outer cams are rotating together, drivers are transferring the movement of outer cams to ratchet gears, and the rotation of ratchet race becomes the output. How IVMC works: diagram 1
Controlling: Control gears are connected to a Three Variable Control (TVC). (A TVC has three variables; input, output, and control. The input and control are independent variables.) Right Sun gear of the TVC is the speed control. When the Right Sun Gear is held fixed, Left Sun Gear and inner cams will be rotating together since they are both fixed to cam shaft. The objective of having the TVC is making inner and outer cams rotate together and to adjust the relative angular position while in flight.

Example: If drive gears are rotating at 1 rpm CW, slotted gears and outer cams will be rotating at 1 rpm CCW since drive gears and slotted gears are same in size. Control gears are driving carrier gears, and carrier gears will be rotating at 1/2 rpm CCW since control gears are1/2 of the carrier gears in size. When Right Sun Gear is held fixed, both Left Sun Gear and inner cams will be rotating at 1 rpm CCW. Thus Inner and outer cams are synchronized and will be rotating together.

How IVMC works: diagram 2

When the outer cam is concentric relative to the center of cam shaft, the output through cam follower, driver, will be zero. By adjusting the angular position of Right Sun Gear, when the outer cam become eccentric relative to the center of cam shaft, there will be an output. Since Right Sun Gear can be infinitely adjustable, infinitely variable output can be produced.

A typical output is a sinusoidal waveform. By rectifying, super-imposing, and selecting the fastest points of the waveforms, a variable amplitude output can be generated.
